This is the first English edition of a classic 1949 black-and-white graphic novel about the dangers of rampant technology and the power of the human (or robot) heart, written by the father of manga (Japanese comics), Osamu Tezuka--best known as the creator of ASTRO BOY. Although Tezuka liked the title and the image of the robot Maria, this book bears no other relation to the 1927 Fritz Lang film. In fact, the manga METROPOLIS inspired a 2001 animated film of its own. Michi, a gender-switching artificial being who resembles an exquisite child, runs away from its scientist creator and goes on a quest in the fabulous city of Metropolis for its parents, unaware that it is not human and has no parents. ASTRO BOY fans will be familiar with the cartoonish, broadly drawn style of the characters. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.
